I've been using Screamer for close to 2 years, and I've never noticed a memory leak or any interference with other programs.

I love the low-overhead tray app for listening to groovy yet unobtrusive (and lyric-free) downtempo and lounge stations at work.

I second JKBECKMAN, same issue here. We pay the royalties for the music played not the listener. Stream ripping (ripping out songs) is nothing but theft.

If you're using it like a Tivo then IMO it's fine.

Screamer is an excellent internet radio player, which has made my endless days in the lab so much more enjoyable. Its presets selection is quite impressive and updated frequently.

This looks like a great app. Like AnthonyLitz, I prefer Screamer for some of the internet radio feeds without needing all of the overhead that WinAmp provides (I don't need visualizations when I'm listening at work).

I used Screamer for a while before realizing it ripped songs. Love it. I have had a lot more success using the small little program Screamer to stream audio vs having big ol' Winamp open just to do the same thing. As far as memory leak, I had not noticed that, and have had it running for many hours before.

All streamripping software should be banned. I run 2 stations and if any applications connect that are specific to stealing my songs and taking a slot that I pay for is kicked off and not let back on.

Unfortunately Screamer Radio has a huge memory leak. I got a lot of glitches for all other applications while was using SR. Not sure it is a good application.

Most of these apps default to relay the station, so you still only pay for once per song, as the user would only have one connection to you. But let me know your stations, so I can open up a stream and let them run without actually listening to them. Hey, atleast I'm not ripping the songs, right?

For Linux though, streamripper works great. There's even a gui for it now.

Don't streaming radio stations have enough problems with royalties already? The widespread use of rippers would provide their enemies a great argumnet for shutting them down.

Something to consider, recording 'over the air' radio is legal - and internet radio streams are very similar to traditional radio. It's not a direct comparison but it does bear consideration.

Also remember that the internet crosses international boundaries and that laws are different - for example the copying of audio CD's between friends (i.e. no money made) is NOT illegal in Canada. In fact, when I buy my blank CD's for this I pay a levy that is paid to artists and I paid a levy based on the storage size of my MP3 player as well, so when I capture a stream and burn it to CD or move it over to my player I have already paid my fees.
