Calling all crafty DIYers with just a naughty twist of scary! Next Wednesday is Halloween, and we want to spotlight your best DIY Halloween costumes so we can rip them off for our own party. Anything from cute to somewhat disturbing is fair game, as long as it's homemade. The more clever, easy and cool it is, the better. Impress us! Email your high res costume digital photo to tips@lifehacker.com with the subject line DIY Halloween Costume. Ideally, your photo will be 600 pixels wide so we can admire the details of your handiwork, and you'll include information on how you made it, with a materials list and construction details. We'll publish the best submissions this weekend in preparation for the big day. Have fun and get to digging up those great costume pics!

an excerpt from some "low-cost costume ideas" from adam sandler ...
" ... Or you could use a prop, you know, you have lying around the house. A newspaper's great. You can go as Crazy Newspaper Face. 'I'm Crazy Newspaper Face! And I want some candy! Give some candy to Crazy Newspaper Face! My face ain't normal, it's a damn newspaper! Come on, extra, extra, read all about me, I need some candy!' "
For students, I recommend 'Crazy Protractor Beard'
... Now gimme some candy!

Mine was stolen by Scott Adams, but I'm headed out as an OJ Simpson memorabilia collector.
Not quite as good as the year I went as an Abu Ghraib prisoner with my own personal Lynndie England, but it'll do.

If you are going the Zombie route, this year's must have accessory is a 12" vinyl record sticking out of your head.

With a black T-shirt, black pajamas, black socks, and black thong sandals, you can make a surprisingly decent Shirt Ninja costume.

Not sure if this counts as DYI, but I dressed up my twins as ipod minis last year for a home party with outfits from ipodmybaby.com. They were to young to take out so nothing too fancy. My husband wore a black turtleneck like Steve Jobs. Yeah, I know, we're geeks :-)

i'm going as Clown from Slipknot. I used one of the DIY tutorials for screen printing a shirt, to put the logos on a black workshirt that i already had.
Plus, instead of buying the official mask (which doesn't look right once it's on), i'm going to wrap my head in gauze and use fake blood to give it a real/authentic look.
All in all, i'm thinking its going to cost me about 1/5th of the official store bought costumes and such.

I was gonna go with my friend as fight of the conchords. We look pretty close to them and were gonna grow out their facial hair, dress like them, and play some songs. I thought it was a great idea but I live 5 hours away now so it's not much of an option, plus I cut off all my hair. No more Jemaine, so sad. I guess I'll just have to make him a tape this time.

It's a very random costume idea, but I plan to portray the "sinful woman" that gave Christ a pedicure, first-century style. (Luke 7:36-50) I'm using a full size red bedsheet, some tights to keep my legs warm, some sandals, and an alabaster jar, if I can find one from a friend, if I can't, I'll wrap a perfume bottle in tissue paper. The sandals were the bost expensive part of the costume, and those I got on sale for nine dollars US. One seamstresses' trick to getting lots of basic fabric for cheap in solid colors is buying a bedsheet or two. The same fabric is sometimes much more affordrable this way than off the bolt.

I'm in law school, so I plan on geeking out a little for Halloween. Current idea is to dress as the "Devil's advocate" - black suit with a bunch of buttons, stickers, and campaign posters/flyers saying thing's like "Devil is #1" and "Go Devil."

It wasn't for Halloween but I did recently go to an 80s party dressed as a Rubiks Cube. It was rather impractical but worked well as a table for everyone to put their drinks on when I sat down. Sorry I don't have a photo on the web to link to but I assure you it went down very well with everyone! DIY stores are great sources for large amounts of cardboard!

I am a law student, so my girlfriend and I thought it would be fun to go as an ambulance chaser and an accident victim this year. I'm wearing my best suit, a pair of devil horns, and some bling. She's wearing a sling, bandages, and fake blood. The whole thing cost less than 20 bucks, so it's easy and budget-friendly.
