Get GMaps Full-Screen with Google Maps Max
Posted by Gina Trapani at 1:00 AM on October 13, 2007

Firefox with Greasemonkey or Stylish: Take advantage of every pixel of Google Maps screen real estate with the Google Maps Max Greasemonkey script/Stylish user style. GMaps Max wipes out the top header whitespace and displays your map full screen, with an optional driving directions sidebar. The Maps Max script also removes the Google copyright symbol and increases the inset map window four times. Check out some side-by-side comparison screenshots.
Default Maps view:
With the Google Maps Max style/script enabled:
You must have the Greasemonkey or Stylish extension installed in your copy of Firefox to turn on Google Maps Max, which is a free download.

I'm experiencing the same thing as gopanthers. Not very helpful.

Great idea but, for me at least, this isn't creating any more map real estate at all. It's letting the map go to the top of the screen but it's now got an equal amount of blank white space at the bottom of the screen. It didn't add any map, it just shifted it upwards.

GoPanthers, BRS928, RNKONEIL:
I just compiled the User Script equivalent of this Stylish style to a full fledged Firefox extension and I have encountered the same issue as you. Please note that browser windows do NOT need to be resized if you install via Stylish. I am currently looking into why the white space occurs with Greasemonkey.
If I can't figure that out, maybe Ms. Trapani can update the post?

Here's a screenshot of the first Google Maps Max. This one has no sidebar at all - just full-window goodness.

As far as "full screen" goes, it should draw the map over your entire browser window, however big that is. Since I often use Google Maps as an atlas, I appreciate the extra space. The sidebar does collapse, just click the arrow. If you don't ever use the sidebar, you can use the first version of my Stylish style. The "Updated" version is rewritten to restore the Sidebar in a way I didn't know how to accomplish first time around in a pleasing manner (so I just got rid of it).
In either version, if you make a bookmark to "www.Google.com/maps" you will always be able to access the un-edited Google Maps. These styles only alter "maps.Google.com". Both styles work nicely with the "Map This!" Firefox extension.
To those needing to resize the Window, are you using Greasemonkey or Stylish? I haven't tested Greasemonkey, maybe it renders CSS changes differently? I would think a page refresh would be all that's needed.
I should mention I just combined the features of a few other styles to create something that worked for me. The "Updated" style has a bit of code that is probably original, and I'm pretty happy with it.

@brs928:
Thanks. Clicking the resize button and then back to maximize forced it to work the way it was intended. Nice... like IMAX for Google Maps.
