Pizza Hut didn’t come off so well in the pizza app wars against Domino’s. Its new weapon? Credits via Facebook when you buy online that will eventually score you a free pizza.

Pizza Hut released its iPhone app last month, somewhat later than expected. The application claims 70,000 downloads in its first month, which sounds impressive — until you stack it up against the competition.
Last October, both Domino’s and Pizza Hut announced plans to release iPhone ordering apps. Domino’s delivered on its promise in November and scored a whole bunch of orders, but the Pizza Hut app has only just appeared.

Who knew iPhone users were such gluttons? A little over a month after launching its iPhone app, Domino’s claims to have sold over $1 million worth of pizza through the app. That’s an awful lot of cheese, though with 150,000 downloads, it only amounts to an average of about one standard pizza each.
As expected, Domino’s has launched a free iPhone pizza-ordering app, letting you place orders, pay for them and track the status of your pizza.
Looks like November will be the month when ordering a pizza easily on your iPhone becomes a reality down under. Domino’s is planning to launch an iPhone app on November 11 (according to an invite that recently landed in the Lifehacker inbox), which might explain why Pizza Hut also recently proclaimed plans to release an Australian pizza-ordering iPhone app “soon”. Either way, looks like mozzarella stains could soon be another screen-wrecking hazard.
