Keyboard Organiser Stows Stuff Under Your Keys

Posted by Gina Trapani at 3:00 AM on March 6, 2008

Clear off your computer desk but still have easy access to pens, CDs, and other supplies with the Keyboard Organizer—a fully-working keyboard that flips up for storage. Haven't typed on one of these myself so I'm not sure what the height is like on this bad boy, but the two-in-one organiser/keyboard action is a nifty idea. The Keyboard Organizer will set you back about 50 bucks (£24.99).

If you live in a small space, a home office may seem like a distant dream—unless you've got the right gear. The Unclutterer blog points out a space-saving rolling desk that packs several drawers and a fold-out laptop stand with mouse pad extension. This thing is totally compact and portable, so you could set up shop in any corner of the house with it. (Looks especially good for bedrooms that double as offices.) How do you work at home without an actual extra room to set up an office? Let us know in the comments. More CI Desk photos here:

Add Life to Your Workspace

Setting up a workspace—be it a cubicle, desk or home office setup—with a strict focus on productivity can leave it feeling a bit lifeless. You might not go to the semi-crazy extremes shown in Wired's photo gallery, but designer Kelly Moore has a few ideas you can pull from each concept. For example:

"If you think about it, the walls and floor are the largest spaces to transform," Moore says. Pre-printed corrugated paper (available from craft and party-supply stores) is inexpensive and easily affixed with Velcro. "It sets the scene," Moore says.
Other workspace ideas offered include keeping a folding chair for guests under a desk, keeping piled work in clean-line containers, and keeping a cotton ball dipped in essential oils nearby to counteract lingering office smells.

Declutter with an Under-the-Desk Power Basket

power-basket.pngDIY web site Instructables covers the perennial favorite: Cleaning up cord clutter beneath your desk. We've covered the cordless workspace plenty in the past, but if you still haven't found a solution that fits your needs, this simple and cheap power strip basket could do wonders for your cable decluttering needs. The custom cut basket is particularly useful for retaining access to your power outlets without needing to unscrew the entire apparatus in order to unplug or plug in a new device.

How Do You Clear Your Messy Desk?

Posted by Tamar Weinberg at 1:30 AM on October 10, 2007

Is your desk cluttered with lists and notes you jotted months ago? The Happiness Project proposes a way to declutter your desk by keeping a single piece of paper for notes every day and throwing it away after the day is over.

Now I have a "scratch paper for the day." I keep a pad of paper by the phone, and anytime I have the urge to make a note to myself, I discipline myself only to use that pad of paper. At the end of the day, I toss the piece of paper, after copying anything I need to keep.
Nice way to weed out the daily cruft and keep only what's critical. How do you manage your daily scribbles? Let us know in the comments.
