Dear Lifehacker, Am I able to restart my computer and have it automatically reopen whatever programs and files I had open? For instance, when I uninstall a program, it often asks me to restart to complete installation. However, I usually have numerous programs running, files that I’m editing, tabs open in Firefox and so on. To restart I have to save and close everything, restart, then reload and open everything. Surely there’s an easier way? Thanks, Boot Polish
Dear Lifehacker, My mobile service provider’s website doesn’t work in Chrome, and it’s really annoying. What’s going on and how can I fix it? Sincerely, Broken Browser
Dear Lifehacker, Solid-state drives (SSDs) are expensive and hard disk drives (HDDs) are slow. Now that you can buy a hybrid of the two, there are a lot of choices with varying costs. Which type of drive is my best bet for the money?
Dear Lifehacker, I’m about to take a much-needed holiday, and while planning my trip is a blast, planning for my return is always the hard part. I’ll be mostly disconnected and don’t like the idea of checking in just to make getting back to work and life easier when I return from my time away. Do you have any tips on how to quickly re-integrate with my day to day activities when I get home without immediately feeling like I need to take a holiday from my return-from-holidays?
Dear Lifehacker,
Tech has made my home awesome; I can watch anything I want in a heartbeat; I can track my pizza through every stage of delivery; I can even work from home. It’s great, but I’m starting to worry I’m losing my social edge. Do you have any tips for avoiding going all Howard Hughes?
Sincerely,
Shrinking from Society
Dear Lifehacker, I am a serving member in the military and live some 20 kilometres from the nearest supermarket, and to make matters worse I do not drive. I’m struggling to eat fresh and healthy and have a sustainable diet conducive to weight loss when supermarket access is a one-in-every-seven-day event. Can you make any recommendations? If I spend another week eating frozen chicken breast I’m going to go vegan. I have a fridge, freezer, the rest of a normal house and space for a small vegetable garden but no idea what grows fast enough to help me out now. Thanks, Long Way To The Shops
Dear Lifehacker, I’ve read about how to plant ideas in someone’s head, but the whole idea of manipulation makes me uneasy. Still, I’m not great at making a case for what I want, even though I know it’s a skill that would be incredibly useful. Can you offer any suggestions to help me better convince others to do what I want?
Dear Lifehacker, I’m no idiot when it comes to security, and you guys have often mentioned how easily Wi-Fi networks can be cracked or how anyone can sniff out passwords and cookies. My question, though: How dangerous is it really when I’m sitting and checking my email at the cafe on the corner?
Dear Lifehacker,
I’ve been downloading torrents for a long time and people keep telling me about how great Usenet is, but is it actually safer than BitTorrent downloads? Or is it just not as popular?
Sincerely,
