First Look At Foxtel Downloads

No 64-bit support?
No Mac support?
Can’t watch on my iPhone (because face it, if I’m at home I’m going to watch on the TV)?

Lame.

ABC Wants iView Carried For Free On The NBN

This makes so much sense, it would be terrible if it didn’t go ahead.

Microsoft Outlook Coming To Mac Office

In other news, Microsoft Entourage for OS X Web Services Edition which plays nicer with Exchange was also released today.

Exercise Won't Make You Thin, Just Healthy

@johnny_the_knife: There are many ways to skin a cat – Crossfit is one. For me I found that a 5×5 strength workout and sprint training 2-3x a week works best.

Exercise Won't Make You Thin, Just Healthy

Typical alarmist journalism. To lose weight you need to have energy input < energy output. One way to do that is to eat less calories (and a better macro-nutrient balance), and increase your energy output by exercising.

Comparing the “at rest” calorie expenditure of muscle vs fat is ridiculous. It’s the actual activity done in generating the muscle that has an impact.

Resistance training with compound lifts + high intensity interval training = the fastest way to fat loss.

Fight Carpal Tunnel With Simple Desk Exercises

When I was a sloth that did pretty much no exercise I got carpal tunnel syndrome. The last seven or eight years I haven’t had it at all – because I strengthened my wrists by lifting weights. Try it.

What Do You Need At Your Seat?

My list is pretty similar to yours. One difference though, is that I always request an aisle seat so that I can get up very easily. I’m not a big fan of sitting still in a tiny seat for a long time.

- Book (can’t stand reading newspapers in a tiny seat)
- iPhone for games and music
- Noise cancelling headphones
- Laptop – stowed overhead and grabbed at some stage during the flight
- Miscellaneous junk (passport, wallet, etc).
- And the most useful one for long haul – Travelcalm. I don’t get sick, but those tablets put me out like a light and they’re available over the counter. Long haul in economy sucks, the more sleep you get the better.

Telstra Bill Glitches Drive Dealers, Customers To Despair

When I signed up for BigPond Mobile Broadband, what should have been a 15 minute connection process ended up being two weeks and around 4 hours on the phone (total) because my account got “stuck in the system”. What the hell does that mean?

Sadly, the other telcos are worse. I moved from Optus to Telstra for my home phone and broadband and have experienced much better service with Telstra. While Telstra might only be a 6 out of 10, Optus are around a 3.

Best Australian iPhone 3GS Deals

Yes Optus are still doing a 12 month contract option, but you need to go in store. I just signed up for one this morning.

Of course, they’d rather lock you in for two years.

Optus Wants $9.99 A Month For iPhone Tethering

Optus are crap, but unfortunately Vodafone’s coverage is worse, and Telstra is incredibly expensive. Every time I consider switching to Telstra I just can’t justify the extra expense.

iPhone 3.0 Update Available For Download

@Mic Cullen: I tried to tether and the iPhone says “Contact OPTUS to enabled tethering”. Disappointing.

iPhone 3.0 Update Available For Download

If you have trouble with activation, try this trick: Once downloaded, hit “Update” while connected to the Internet and then disconnect from the Internet or disable your network connection while the package is extracting. Worked for me! Found it on a forum.

Vodafone Adds Visual Voicemail To iPhone

Now I hope Optus follow their lead. I’m not sure if this is enough to switch back to Vodafone, though – I switched to Optus due to Voda’s terrible, terrible network.

Why 3G Broadband Software Is So Annoying

I’ve used both the Vodafone and Telstra app. Vodafone’s software I found flaky as hell (just like their service – I escaped from a 24 month plan due to their terrible, slow coverage).

Telstra’s is much better, although there does seem to be a bit of a trick to using it. I have had the app freeze up on me a couple of times in the past, but now I make sure I do things in a certain order. Boot PC, log in, load app (I don’t autorun it), wait for app to become responsive, and then plug in the modem.

HLO Day 4: When Your Qantas Club Card Dies

Angus, I wouldn’t stress about that too much. I use my card when checking in and it works about 80% of the time. The other 20% I have to punch in my details. I have no idea why this happens, but I wouldn’t throw out the card just yet.
