After all of the recent parties, passive aggressive familial comments, and champagne hangovers, holiday season 2019 might be the last thing you want to think about now.
But if you want to get better at giving gifts—or just make the whole thing easier on yourself—start listing gift ideas now for the people you love. Refer to it throughout the year, when a gift idea occurs to you or your friend or loved one makes a comment. Then you won’t be scrambling come Dec. 23.
Meghan Walbert, Lifehacker’s interim parenting editor, swears by this trick. “I have an email folder labelled ‘gift ideas,’ she says. “Whenever someone mentions something, I email it to myself and file it away.”
You could also use a Google doc, start an Amazon shopping list specifically full of gift ideas (and buy them over the course of the year when you have the money), use your notes app or any other system that works for you and will be easily accessible throughout the year. (Ed note: Wunderlist would be perfect for this, as well.)
With any luck, your next holiday season will go by smoothly and you’ll become known as the Ultimate Gift Giver in your family. Well worth the effort.
