Planhacker: The Best ‘BYO Phone’ Plans Under $20

You want to know the secret to saving money on your mobile phone bill? There’s no secret: just keep your phone for as long as you can and make sure you’re on the right SIM Only phone plan. Here are Australia’s ten best plans that cost under $20 a month. (We’ve also included ten plans with over 10GB of data.)

I’ve spoken with several people recently who managed to cut their phone bill from over $100 per month to somewhere under $40. That’s a lot of money when you consider that nothing changes for them. They make the same phone calls, send the same text messages and use the same apps, all while saving over $700 a year.

It also drives home how expensive phones are these days. If you can avoid buying the latest model for another year, you should consider it. And if you’re coming out of a phone contract, or just looking for a bargain, here are some of the plans worth taking a look at right now.

It’s basically a market that is designed to obfuscate information from consumers so they can’t easily compare services between providers in a market. The mobile phone market is notorious for this.”]

Most popular BYO Phone Plans (Under $20)

If you are looking for something cheap, these are the most popular plans with searchers for $20 or less. The Pennytel plans are still looking good with the 6 month discount, as does the Spintel plans with 5GB for $19.95 or 3GB for $15.95.

Most of these plans have 2GB or less, which means you will need to keep an eye on how much data you use each month. Even if you’re on WiFi most of the time, it is pretty easy to chew through 2GB these days.

Most popular BYO Phone Plans (10GB or more)

These plans are the most popular on our site at the moment, based on search activity over the past week. The Pennytel deal is great with 50% off for the first six months with no contract, and Think’s Mobile’s $30 plan is incredible value if you don’t mind signing up for a year.

If you make overseas phone calls, Belong is your go-to plan, with unlimited minutes to 36 countries, including the usual suspects like the UK, US, China, India and Thailand.

Vodafone’s ‘unlimited’ Plus Plan is also in the mix, too. We weren’t sure whether these plans would be as popular as they are, given the price point, but 60GB of 4G internet and 12-months of free Netflix seems to be drawing a crowd.
