We’ve enjoyed Cynar in the form of a fizz before, but today we’re pairing the herbaceous, slightly bitter and vegetal amaro with sweet and tart lemonade and then fortifying it with gin. While it’s true that lemonade is most commonly enjoyed in the summer, Cynar gives it a woodsy quality, making it a fine cocktail for even the most blustery of days. To make this flavorfully balanced drink, you will need:
- 75mL of lemonade
- 30mL of Cynar
- 30mL of gin, preferably something with a fairly floral flavour.
Combine everything in a cocktail shaker filled with ice (or one big cube) and shake until very chilled. Strain into a coupe glass, and sip away.

I can beat that with a two ingredient happy hour …
Single malt Scottish whisky, and Tim Tams.
Life’s good.
I’d recommend not using effervescent lemonade as the shaker may explode, shouldn’t be too bad with only 75ml but would be a waste of a good drink and possibly a shirt/carpet.
