Hands On WIth The Bodyguardz Trainr Pro

There are thousands of choices when it comes to cases for protecting your smartphone. As an avid trail runner I need to safely carry my phone just in case I get into trouble. I’ve been testing the Bodyguardz Trainr Pro case and arm-band combo for a couple of weeks. Here’s what I think.

The Bodyguardz Trainr Pro case is made from Unequal – a blend of Kevlar and Accelleron. The case was a snug fit around my iPhone 7 Plus.

All the ports, buttons and switches are easily accessible. The case is textured so it’s easy to grip.

I’m very careful with my iPhone and have never smashed a screen (unlike many people) but on the first day of testing the case, it slipped a pile of stuff I was carrying to my car onto concrete from about 1.5m.

The iPhone escaped unscathed.

My biggest complaint about the Trainr Pro is that it is too secure.

Once the case was secured to the arm-band I couldn’t remove the case from the arm-band without taking the armband off, extracting the phone from the case and then bending the case to remove it from it the arm-band.

So, while there very little chance of the phone falling out and being damaged, it’s a pain in the arse if you want to snap a quick photo or selfie – something I often do if there’s some interesting local wildlife or scenery.

A spokesperson for Bodyguardz told me this issue is being addressed later this year with a new version of the case that features a quick release mechanism.

The Bodyguardz Trainr Pro case costs $59.95 on its own. Another $15 gets you a case and armband bundle. There are versions for the iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 7 Plus as well as the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S8 and S8+.
