While building a PC from scratch from parts you’ve bargain hunted is the best way to go, it’s not always the most practical. Perhaps it’s for a friend who isn’t the most tech-savvy, or you just can’t be arsed doing all the legwork, just to save a few bucks. In these situations, going pre-built isn’t the end of the world, especially when you find deals like this one from Dell.
Dell is currently selling its XPS 8910 desktop for $1874, a healthy 25 per cent off its normal price of $2499. $2499 is way too much of course, but drop that by $625 and you have yourself an interesting proposition.
Here are the important specs:
- 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700 CPU
- Windows 10 Home 64-bit
- 16GB DDR4 2133MHz
- 256GB M.2 SSD
- 2TB 7200rpm HDD
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB
- DVD drive
- One year warranty
- Keyboard and mouse
- 350W or 460W (PSU efficiency varies by regional regulatory requirements)
- Tower case
It’s true that if you were to shop around, you could do better than $1800. But the difference would be pretty close — a couple of hundred dollars if that — and you’d have to put everything together yourself. And as RogueWolf over at OzBargain points out, if you’re willing to go through Cash Rewards, you can shave off another 4 per cent, bringing the cost down to $1799.
The CPU and GPU are excellent and would serve a gamer well and including the warranty and free delivery, it could be the perfect way to upgrade your desktop, minus a lot of hassle.
