Enhance The Flavour Of Cocktails With A Few Drops Of Saline Solution

A pinch of salt is a great way for chefs and bakers to temper bitter flavours, but it’s a handy trick for at-home bartenders as well. Here’s how to make a saline solution that will boost the flavour of your cocktails.

In this video from the Cocktail Chemistry YouTube channel you’ll learn how to make salty, bitter-tempering liquid you can drop into almost any alcoholic concoction. Just mix 20g of salt with 80mL of water, then shake it up in a closed container until it’s clear.

Now keep the solution in a dropper vial until you need it. Just two drops of the solution will reduce bitterness while enhancing the sweet, citru flavours in your drinks. Also, keeping your salt in liquid form means grains won’t stick to your fingers or make a mess on your counter.
