Make Perfect Punch Every Time Using This Simple Rhyme

Punch is the perfect festive party drink, and making a good one is all about striking that perfect balance of flavours. If you want to mix up a bowl that hits all the tasty notes, you just need to remember a little rhyme.

Not only is the catchy little Barbadian rhyme really easy to remember, it makes creating the perfect punch a cinch:

One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak. A dash of bitters and a sprinkle of spice, serve well chilled with plenty of ice.

Epicurious has some great recipe suggestions in the link below, but you can use the above rhyme to create your own sippable masterpiece. The key is knowing what drinks and liquids to use for the mentioned tastes.

The “sour” portion is traditionally lime juice, but you can use any citrus juice, or even something a little out there like a shrub. “Sweet” is some sort of syrup, usually simple, but flavored syrups and even honey or agave can work here too. “Strong” is obviously your booze of choice and, while “weak” usually refers to water (still or sparkling), feel free to use your favourite juice or soft drink instead. Add in a bit of bitters, sprinkle in some nutmeg or cinnamon, and serve it up!
