Lure A Lost Cat Back Home With Its Used Litterbox

If you’ve ever had a cat escape and run away from home, you know how upsetting it can be. Aside from putting up signs and talking to neighbours, there are a few tricks to lure your cat back home. For example, try putting their litter box outside.

This tip comes via Reddit and a number of animal rescue groups recommend it, too. For example, the SPCA of Northern Virginia explains:

Put food and water outside near the point of escape or close to a good hiding spot nearby. Use strong smelling canned cat food that your cat can smell from a distance so your cat knows where to go for food. Also, put your cat’s litter box and any bedding that has your cat’s scent on it outside to attract your cat back to your home.

PetMD backs this up, adding that a path of soiled litter can help lure the cat back home, as it’s a comfortable and familiar smell. We’d be remiss not to remind pet owners that it’s important to chip your pets, too. For more tips on how to find a lost cat, head to the post at the link below.
