The Pirate Radio Playlist

The Pirate Radio Playlist

Music and piracy have an intertwined relationship. As long as we’ve been recording songs, those outside the law have been broadcasting the signal to anyone who will listen. This playlist celebrates one of the earliest forms of music in a legal grey area: Pirate radio.

Back in radio’s heyday, pirate radio stations broadcast unlicensed signals, in some cases even from international waters. While pirate radio stations still exist in some forms today, the rebellious nature of music creators and fans still bubbles under the surface of the industry.

This playlist from Spotify user Mattchu Newitt appeals to anyone who’s ever rebelled against anything. Featuring artists from The Rolling Stones to the Beastie Boys, Motley Crue to Frank Sinatra. If you’ve ever had to break some rules to keep the broadcast going, you’ll find something to love on this playlist.

Welcome to our Featured Playlist series. Each week, we’ll share a new themed playlist, embedded for your convenience! You can copy the track list to your service of choice, or listen right here. Have a sweet playlist of your own? Share it with us in the comments below!
