Having a good work ethic means more than just showing up and putting in the minimum necessary. If you have a hard time getting in the mindset of a dedicated worker, start by building work around your passion.

As business site Entrepreneur points out, most people don’t have a hard time working hard for things their passionate about. That would be sort of contradictory. When you’re doing something you love, you’ll show up each day wanting to do it to the best of your ability. That’s an excellent way to start practising a good work ethic, even if your job doesn’t actually involve the thing you’re passionate about:
You can still be passionate in your work. It’s just a different kind of passion. It’s passion for excellence. Excellence is the desire that you see among many of the blue collar workers in the world today. I know many plumbers, landscapers and construction workers who are more passionate and hard working than even multi-millionaire entrepreneurs.
When you show up to work every day willing to put in effort to do your job well, you’re in a better position to negotiate raises, get promoted or just improve your skills. Sometimes it feels hard in the moment to justify putting in extra effort for a job you hate, but your passion and work ethic spills over into the areas of your life that you actually care about.
