Trimming away the top, rounded portion of a cake before frosting makes it look pretty and professional, but it’s a damn shame to throw away the scraps. You could just eat them, or you could turn them into a crunchy ice cream topping.

Just crumble up your cake, spread the crumbs in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 120C for about an hour (until the crumbs are completely dry). Once you have your toasty little crunchy bits ready to go, sprinkle them over your favourite ice cream or use them as a decorative garnish on your beautifully frosted cake.
