Android 7.1’s Keyboard Is Hiding A Handy New GIF Search Tool

Android: Apps like Facebook Messenger have had built-in GIF search for a while, but now Google is adding it directly to the default keyboard in Android 7.1. It will even remember the ones you use the most.

This feature is surprisingly buried. If you don’t already know it’s there, you might miss it. To find it, tap the smiley icon in the Google Keyboard. In the emoji menu that pops up, there’s a GIF button along the bottom. Tap this and you’ll be able to find a searchable selection of GIFs. Best of all, there’s a “frequently used” button that will save the ones you use all the time.

This feature will only work if you’re using the Google Keyboard on Android 7.1, which you can now try out now on the Nexus 5X, 6P and Pixel C. Or it should be available by default if you picked up the new Pixel phones.
