September’s Money Challenge: Find A Cheaper Mobile Phone Plan

We’ve been throwing out a new challenge every month since January as part of our year-long Lifehacker Ultimate Money Challenge. This month, we’re taking on a specific expense that’s easy to cut: Your mobile phone bill. We challenge you to find a cheaper plan that offers the same level of service.

There are plenty of off-contract, pay-as-you-go plans, and many of these discount carriers have forced the big players to offer better prices, so there’s a lot out there to choose from. Contract plans through the major carriers offer some of the worst deals out there, though, and it’s surprising how many people still overpay for phone service.

If you’ve thought about getting a cheaper plan but haven’t gotten around to it, now is the time. Of course, you don’t want to switch to a plan that doesn’t offer the same minutes or data you need. Make sure you know your new plan’s details and you’re happy with the network and speeds, too. If you accept this challenge, let us know how much you currently pay and how much you think you’ll save each month by switching.
