Reader Alec submitted this simple, minimal Mac desktop to our Desktop Showcase, and it’s simple, understated, and looks great. Here’s how you can set it up too.
This is one of those desktops that looks simple and elegant, and doesn’t have a lot going on up front, but it’s been subtly customised to be more streamlined and simple. Here’s what you’ll need if you want the look yourself:
- The wallpaper
- The Übersicht customisation framework for OS X, which we’ve highlighted before
- The Sidebar widget for Übersicht
- The Liteicon utility for Mac to change the system icons quickly
- The All White icon pack for OS X
- The cDock dock customisation tool
- The Bartender utility for Mac to customise the menubar
That’s about it. Of course, if you don’t like the widget in the lower right, you could just omit Übersicht completely and go with the other tools, like cDock and Bartender, both of which are useful in their own right. If you like the look, or have questions about how to make it your own, visit Alec’s Kinja blog (linked below) to ask your questions or sing your praises.
