Android Nougat Has Arrived, Rolling Out To Recent Nexus Devices Starting Today

Android: Today’s the big day, Android fans. After announcing Android N earlier this year, Google has given it a name and, as of today, released it to the Nexus devices. Say hello to Android Nougat.

Among Android Nougat’s biggest new features, the OS will now support multi-window mode for most apps. Simply long-press the square Recents button to activate split-screen mode and you can open two apps at once. This is a precursor to the inevitable freeform windows in the future that we’ve already seen buried in the Android N beta. Nougat also includes the ability to reply to notifications directly from the shade, bundled notifications and a bunch of other features Google didn’t announce.

Nougat will start to roll out to today to the following devices:

  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 9
  • Nexus Player
  • Pixel C
  • General Mobile 4G (Android One)

If you’ve been using the official Android Beta program, you won’t notice a significant change, but you’ll still receive an update to the latest version.
