Google’s Now On Tap Adds Translation, Article Discovery And Barcode Search

Google’s Now on Tap in Android Marshmallow is one of those neat features that’s still a little rough around the edges. Today, those edges are getting a little smoother with a handful of new features.

First up, you can now translate any text on the screen with the new “translate this screen” card. Just long press the home button, tap the translate button and everything on the screen will get translated provided your phone’s language is set to English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese or Russian. Also new is the “Discover” icon. Tap the icon when you’re looking at a web site and you’ll get a stream of related content based on the images on the screen. Likewise, Now on Tap can now search by barcode or QR code to pull up a slew of helpful cards about whatever you’re out shopping for.
