Stick To Your Grocery Budget With A ‘Do Not Buy’ List

Even if you shop with a list, it’s easy to overspend at the supermarket. You toss an extra item here and there into your cart, and before you know it, you’ve spent way more than expected. To combat this, try shopping with a “do not buy” list.

This idea works well if you tend to buy stuff because it’s on sale, only to get home and realise you already had plenty of that item. It’s relatively simple idea, but Epicurious explains:

When taking inventory of your kitchen before going grocery shopping, in addition to writing a list of the things you need, also keep a list of the things you don’t need — the things you already have enough of, but might be tempted to buy…Whenever one of us notices something we have too much of, we write it on the “Do Not Buy” section of the grocery list pasted on the fridge, just like we write down the things we notice we need throughout the day.
