Most Aussie mums have a signature dish that their family just can’t get enough of. Depending on what decade you grew up in, this could be anything from a decedent bacon stir-fry to a humble nettle soup. This infographic from Over60 highlights six classic dishes that you might want to surprise your mum with this Mother’s Day.

Over60 is a website aimed at Australia’s elder community. Among its most popular sections is the Food & Wine category, which is currently being turned into a cookbook courtesy of Harper Collins Publishing. Dubbed The Way Mum Made It, the book contains 175 family recipes that have been handed down through each generation dating back to the early 1920s.

The infographic below provides a sampling of six old-school Australian recipes from the ’30s through to the ’70s. The recipes are relatively basic, allowing kitchen novices to try their hand at traditional cooking and baking. Each recipe also includes a small anecdote from the submitter, explaining its origin.
