Windows 10 IoT Core Insider Preview Supports Raspberry Pi 3

Some resellers might have jumped the gun and started selling the Raspberry Pi 3 early, but as of yesterday, the creators of the single-board computer has officially launched the newest Pi. Microsoft has wasted no time, releasing an update for its Windows 10 IoT Core Insider Preview to support Raspberry Pi 3.

Last year, Microsoft launched Windows 10 IoT Core, an operating system that caters for single-board computers for internet-of-things (IoT) devices. At the time, it provided support for Raspberry Pi 2 and MinnowBoard Max. With the new IoT Core Insider Preview, the OS can be used with the new Raspberry Pi 3 as well.

IoT Core, which is essentially a trimmed down version of the full-blown Windows 10 operating system, doesn’t use a Windowed interface and can be deployed on devices that don’t carry a display.

As the name suggests, the new Windows 10 IoT Core Insider Preview is only those who are signed up to the Windows Insider program. If you’re already an Insider, you can download the preview at Windows Dev Centre.
