Overnight, Apple has unveiled new additions to its flagship iOS devices: the 4-inch iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. We have the Australian pricing and availability information as well as the product specifications for you.

iPhones have been progressively getting bigger but it seems people are yearning for the smaller form factor offered by the iPhone 5 and 5s. Apple has heard their pleas and has resuscitated the 4-inch design (customers with smaller hands must be squealing with delight right now). The hard edges are back as well, which is good news for those who find the iPhone 6 and 6s’ curves harder to grip onto (myself included).
There is also a new iPad Pro 9.7-inch, smaller than its predecessor and with a better screen.
Both the iPhone SE and the iPad Pro 9.7-inch have comparable hardware compared to previous models (but the iPhone SE doesn’t have the iPhone 6s’ 3D Touch feature). Let’s look at the specs for both devices.

Availability
iPad Pro 9.7-inch
The iPhone SE and the iPad Pro 9.7-inch, which comes in a variety of colours, will both be available on March 31 with pre-orders opening up a week beforehand on March 25. Apple is currently advertising the devices but doesn’t have an option to register interest. Aussie telcos should have their own pre-order offers closer to the release date.
Pricing
While the new iPhone SE has been touted as the cheapest full-blown iPhone to be released, Australians probably won’t be happy with the pricing for the local version. The price starts at $679 for the 16GB model but it only costs US$399. At the current exchange rate, the US price converts to around AU$526. The 64GB version will set you back $829.
As for the iPad Pro 9.7-inch, the 32GB tablet will cost $899. The 128GB and 256GB models have been priced at $1049 and $1399, respectively.

That’s a huge difference in pricing. Is the USD $299 a contract price?
Hi there!
Sorry, the price is actually US$399 and that’s been fixed in the article now. Still translates to a AU$150 difference.
Cheers!

The iPhone US price is $399, not $299. So the Australian price is fairly close to exchange rate plus gst. Please fix the article.
Hi Bernie,
That’s been fixed now.
Cheers,

I’ll just leave this here:

Has it be confirmed that the 9.7″ iPad Pro has 4gb of ram like the 12″ iPad Pro? Also, Apple need to sort out the naming of their products. Is it iPad Pro & iPad Pro+?
12″ iPad Pro
9.7″ iPad Pro
Seems to be in line with their other “Pro” products…
13″ MacBook Pro
15″ MacBook Pro
Are you not going to take sales tax into account?
It’s also worth noting that the Austrlian dollar has recently started doing a lot better and Apple’s entire range is currently out of line…though it took them a long time to update it when it started doing bad so I guess you win some and you lose some
tempting but needs to be cheaper
OK, Judas
