Dealhacker: Aldi’s Doomed Online Grog Shop Is Having A Closing Down Sale

Aldi’s online liquor outlet contains some surprisingly tasty (and award-winning) wines at budget-friendly prices. Unfortunately, the business is shutting down in Australia, effective Thursday (March 24). While this is good news for miserable wine snobs, the rest of us can take advantage of some great clearance deals with prices starting at $3.99.

Aldi announced last month that its online liquor store would cease trading in Australia. While alcohol will continue to be sold in Aldi’s physical stores you’ll no longer be able to snap up home deliveries using the online service.

Much like its food products, Aldi’s homebrand wines have an undeserved reputation for being cheap and nasty. In reality, some of its ultra-budget tipples have managed to win medals at local wine shows. Last year, an Aldi rose won a Blue Gold medal at the 2016 Sydney International Wine Competition; not bad for $4.99 bottle of plonk!

In an email to customers, Aldi explained that it was closing down its online liquor store to focus on creating the best possible in store experience. The site will shut down on 4pm, March 24, but in the meantime you have the opportunity to snap up some great bargains — including a Buy Two Get One Free deal. You can also get 20% off and free delivery when you spend $100+ and use the discount code “LASTCHANCE”.

Check out the rest of the clearance deals here. (Standard terms and conditions will continue to apply to all purchases including Aldi’s satisfaction guarantee, which will be honoured after the closure date.)
