Use Code To Track Your Friends’ Sleeping Habits With Facebook

Facebook Messenger is able to track when your friends were last on the social media platform. There is now a tool that uses the data collected from Messenger to track just how much sleep your friends are getting and the creator has made the source code available on GitHub. Here’s how it works.

Humans are innately curious creatures. We want to know what’s going on and who’s doing what. That is a big reason why Facebook and other social media platforms have become so popular. We know what our friends eat, when they go on holidays, what they did on the weekend. Now there is a tool to track their sleeping patterns.

fb-sleep is able to check Facebook every 10 minutes to track what time your friends are logging on and off Facebook and aggregates that information to looks at long periods of inactivity.

As Søren Louv-Jansen, the creator of this tool explains:

Many people visit Facebook as the first thing in the morning, and the last thing before going to bed. It is therefore possible to get a good impression of their sleeping habits (or lack thereof).

Guilty…

The source code for fb-sleep is available on GitHub. You can clone the repository to run the tool locally to start tracking your friends’ sleep patterns and take Facebook stalking to a whole new level.

Louv-Jansen gives additional information on how he made the tool over at Medium.
