Samsung Galaxy S7 And S7 Edge: Australian Pricing, Specs And Availability

After months of product leaks and rumours, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are finally preparing to launch in Australia. Here’s a specification rundown on both flasgship phones, along with when you can buy them in Australia and for how much.

Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a 5.1-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 820 processor and a 3000 mAh battery. The S7 Edge is slightly bigger at 5.5 inches. It comes with a 3600 mAh battery and Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 processor. Both phones pack in 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and run on Android Marshmallow with a TouchWiz skin over the top. Samsung is also bringing back expandable memory for these models — both come with MicroSD slots.

Other noteworthy features include IP68 water resistance (up to 30 minutes submerged in fresh water), inbuilt NFC, Samsung Pay and wireless charging functionality. Here’s a look at the chief specifications:

Availability

The Galaxy S7 will be available to pre-order from February 26 and will go on sale in Australia on March 11. To stay notified, you can register your interest on Samsung’s website. Aussie telcos should have their own pre-order offers up around February 26.

Pricing

The Galaxy S7 will cost $1149 to buy outright in Australia. The S7 edge will cost $1249. There may be slightly cheaper offers available from the likes of Mobileciti and Kogan, but pricing will be largely the same for the first few months after launch.

Australian telcos have not released their own pricing yet. However, it’s safe to assume that the usual mobile repayment options will be offered across a range of 24-month plans. If you’re on a limited budget and don’t mind being tied to a mobile phone contract, this is the option to go for.

If you pre-order either device before March 10, Samsung will throw in a Galaxy Gear VR virtual-reality headset. (More details here.) The free Gear VR offer will also be offered through Australia’s major telcos so keep an eye out on their respective product pages.
