Microsoft’s Enterprise Agreement currently offers the best value on its software to organisations with at least 250 users. But that is set to change as Microsoft plans to alter its Enterprise Agreement policy so smaller organisations won’t be able to access the discounts anymore. Here are the details.
Currently, organisations under the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement save 15 to 45 per cent on software licences when they sign onto a three year contract. Currently, businesses with over 250 users or devices can be on the agreement but soon only companies with double the number of staff will be eligible for the savings.
According to a blog post by Microsoft worldwide licensing and pricing general manager Richard Smith:
Beginning on July 1, 2016, the minimum Enterprise Agreement (EA) commitment for commercial customers signing new Enterprise Enrollments or Enterprise Subscription Enrollments will increase from 250 users or devices to 500. Along with this change, we are guiding new commercial customers within the 250 to 499 user or device range to our modern volume licensing solutions: the Microsoft Product and Services Agreement (MPSA) and the Cloud Solutions Provider (CSP).
Smith said the decision was spurred by changes in the way Microsoft customers want to buy and consume software from the vendor. With increasing adoption of cloud technologies, the new enterprise licencing arrangements will give customers more flexibility.
