Keep Your Black Garments Looking New Longer By Washing Them Inside Out

Black clothes go with everything and take on stains like a champ, but they still require special care if you don’t want them to fade. Flipping your black garments inside out will keep your deep blacks from fading to charcoal grey.

The agitation of the washing process breaks down the fibres and can cause even the darkest of colours to fade. That’s why Kimberly Janeway at Consumer Reports suggests you protect the outside of your black garments by turning them inside out. This lets the inner, unseen fibres of your black clothes shield the visible exterior. Janeway also recommends you only wash in cold water and go light on detergent since it can leave fairly visible streaks on darker clothing.
