A trip over the coals will do just about any food good, as this video from Bon Appetit (featuring The Brothers Green) shows in spades. You don’t have to have fancy coals or special ash, either — they even grill leftover pizza, stale doughnuts, and other stuff from the fridge, and it turns out great.
Since many of you are big fans of grilling year round (and why wouldn’t you be?) the next time you’re trying to empty the fridge of a bunch of leftovers, consider firing up the grill and giving them all a good toast. Sure, you’re probably not going to want to go through the trouble just for last night’s leftover slice of pizza.
But if you have a lot of leftovers — or you really want to bring that leftover pizza back to life, it’s not a bad idea. To be fair, they’re using amazing (and expensive) binchotan for their coals here — but we’re willing to bet you can get pretty far with your own coals or wood, whatever it may be.
Speaking of pizza, they note in the video that the pizza benefited a lot from a few minutes on the coals. Just a few minutes on the grill gave crappy, limp cold pizza a new coal-fired life. To see how the doughnuts fared — as well as some prosciutto and even some leftover fried chicken, check out the video above.
