Why You Should Use Cream Polish On Leather Shoes Before Wax

If you own leather shoes, taking good care of them will keep them in good shape for years. Wax-based polishes and shines are popular, but a cream polish may be better to keep the leather in good condition over the long haul.

As Maxton Men points out, wax polish is best used if you want to add extra protection, shine, or have particularly bad scuffs on your shoes. Since the wax seals the leather, it can make it dry out faster if used alone. Using a cream polish first (or instead of wax) helps the leather stay in good shape when it comes to moisture and colour, and stay shiny and flexible. A cream polish also allows you to add a top layer that can be polished again, for even more shine. You can check out Put This On’s technique for applying cream polish in the video above (skip to 6:05).
