You’ll also learn a tip that might save the day the next time you’re having some serious heartburn. Just mix a half tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda into a cup of water, stir and knock it back. The sodium bicarbonate will act as an antacid and neutralise the acid in your stomach. You may be better off using dedicated antacid products (or your prescription medicine), but if you’ve run out, bicarbonate of soda will certainly do the trick in a pinch. You can even add a little bicarbonate of soda to acidic drinks like coffee to help prevent acid buildup before it happens.
