The big pitch here is that pessimism helps you with defining expectation. When you keep your expectations in check, you won’t expect anyone to hand you the world on a platter. This is a sort of “strategic pessimism,” that can help lower anxiety because you’re always planning for negative outcomes. The video certainly takes a full-blown, humorous look at pessimism’s benefits, but that doesn’t mean it’s not right a lot of the time.
