If you’re trying to come up with the perfect song for your wake-up alarm, Spotify’s data experts, along with the help of a music psychologist, have a few suggestions.
According to the Spotify data team, and David M. Greenberg, a music psychologist and Cambridge PhD candidate, there are three keys to a good wake-up song: music that builds gradually (and isn’t too vigorous from the start), positive lyrics to motivate you, and a strong beat in the 100-130 BPM range. Spotify has even made you a complete “wake up” playlist with songs that fit the bill. Some of them include “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, “Elevate” by St. Lucia, and “Downtown” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

Playlists are an interesting beast. I have an old 2nd gen iPod touch that I wont change, because it has a playlist all set up that helps me focus at times. From ACDC’s Thunderstruck to Eminem’s Lose Yourself, its a list of about 8 tracks that have the same impact every time. Goes on from there, but if I ever want inspiration for something, I go to the start of that list and just chill.
And its a list that wont work for everyone, but it does the trick for me every time.
I wake up to the superman theme song…………it could be the reason i may have a slight ego problem.
Spotify compiled a set of sleep and morning playlists. It features slow music from stars like Carbon Based Lifeforms, Brian eno etc. but I also did create some playlists for sleep/chill/meditation https://open.spotify.com/user/drsounds/playlist/5cdGEjmuOD6TQb9wMZNIS6
