Google Maps Offline Mode Gets Navigation, Destination Search And More

Android: Google Maps is getting an update today that will add in a ton of information to downloaded offline maps. Beyond just being easier to download, you also get turn-by-turn navigation, location search, and more.

We saw this feature demoed at Google I/O earlier this year. To download an offline map, just head to the area you want, then tap the download button on the resulting place sheet. It will download all the info you need, including navigation information, a ton of popular destinations, and useful information about those destinations, like hours and ratings. Obviously the maps lack the live traffic information, but otherwise it’s just about everything you need. The feature’s rolling out for Android today and will be on its way to iOS shortly.
