Evernote On iOS Now Lets You Sketch Or Hand Write In Notes

iPhone/iPad: Ever wish you could just make a quick sketch or handwritten note in Evernote? Your wish has come true today, at least on iOS.

Update to the latest version of Evernote for iOS and you’ll see a new pen icon when you create a note. This gives you access to four tools: a pen, highlighter, eraser, and selection tool, with the ability to choose between five line thicknesses and colour options. (The selection tool is pretty cool. You can select part of your drawing or inked note and then move it around, although you can’t resize or otherwise manipulate it.) When you’re done, the image resizes to fit inside the note, but you can add more to the image later.

Your sketches sync to other platforms (including Android) and Evernote’s handwriting recognition will find text inside your inked notes.

It works with your finger and the iPad Pro’s Apple Pencil and also is pressure sensitive if your device supports 3D Touch.

Although this probably won’t replace your favourite mobile drawing app, the ability to quickly jot something down on your phone or use your tablet instead of napkins to sketch ideas out is awesome — especially if you’re already using Evernote’s other awesome features.

Unfortunately, there’s no word on when inking will come to Android or other platforms (Windows, please!). The answer is probably “soon,” though.
