There’s a long weekend looming for much of Australia, which is the perfect chance to tidy up your finances and switch to a better deal before the Christmas bills rush begins.

Credit Cards

Feature: 0 percent balance transfer

Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Platinum: The Bank of Melbourne Vertigo Platinum card offers 0% per annum on balance transfers for 20 months. You can also enjoy 0% on purchases for the first three months after card approval and complimentary insurance when you book travel with the card. This offer runs until 12 January 2016.

Feature: No annual fee credit card

Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard: Lifelong annual card fee waiver As well as having no annual fee, this card lets you earn 0.50 flybuys points for every dollar spent. Sign up before 31 December 2015 and you’ll also receive $100 off a single Coles shop.

Feature: Rewards credit card

ANZ Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 50,000 Reward points for new customers Spend $5,000 in the first three months and you’ll get 50,000 Reward points. The annual fee (normally $149) will also be waived for the first year.

Home Loans

Feature: Variable Rate Home Loan

Mortgage House Advantage Home Loan 80 Special: 3.95% per annum variable rate This loan includes a 100% offset account and a free redraw facility. To qualify, you’ll need to have a deposit of at least 20 per cent of the value of your property.

Feature: Investor Loan

State Custodians Standard Variable Offset Home Loan Review: Borrow up to 95% of property value While many investor loans require a loan-to-value ratio (LVR) of 80% or less, you can borrow up to 95% of property value with this loan. It includes a mortgage offset account and allows extra repayments.

Savings Accounts

Feature: High incentive interest rate

ING Direct Savings Maximiser: 3.50% per annum when you deposit $1000 or more each month Deposit your salary into this account each month to score an additional 1.25% per annum interest on top of the base 2.25% rate.

Feature: High introductory rate

Citibank Online Saver: 3.40% per annum introductory rate For the first four months you have this account, it pays 3.40% per annum on balances under $500,000. After that, it will revert to the standard variable rate (currently 2.60% per annum).

Sunshine Loans Payday Loan: Borrow up to $1800 for short-term needs This payday loan is available even if you have a bad credit history, and can be approved in as little as 30 minutes. You’ll pay 20% of the loan amount as interest, plus 4% in fees each month.

NobleOak Term Life Cover: One month free cover This policy is offering one month free cover and up to 25% off premiums for new applicants. The maximum cover amount is $15 million.
