Why You Should Add Electrolyte Packets To Your Hiking/Survival Kit

Staying healthy and hydrated when you’re outdoors hiking and camping is important, but you only have so much packing space for food, water, and supplies. Add a few packets of electrolyte powder to your pack, or better yet, your first aid kit, as a lightweight way to stay hydrated and replenish nutrients when food or water are scarce.

Rather than making your pack heavier by bringing electrolyte drinks (like Gatorade), use packets of electrolyte powder to get the same benefits without the weight. Plus, by keeping them in your first aid kit, if something bad happens, you’ll be able to replenish vital nutrients quickly just by adding a packet to some fresh water — a lifesaver when food might be scarce.

Many companies that sell electrolyte drinks also offer electrolyte powder, including a variety of flavours so you can mix up the ones you pack. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, save money on the powder by buying it in bulk and portion it out yourself before your next trip.
