Your Biggest Obstacle To Doing What You Want Is You

Your Biggest Obstacle To Doing What You Want Is You

There are a lot of things that can hold you back in life: money, opportunity, other people. It’s disingenuous to say that it’s equally easy for everyone to do what they want. However, in nearly everyone’s case, the biggest obstacle to achieving your goals is yourself.

As personal finance blog Dream Beyond Debt explains, you make choices every day about how to spend your time. You may not be able to up and decide to start a Fortune 500 business, but you can choose between playing more video games, or making something new (or make something by playing video games). The biggest obstacle you’ll ever face is yourself:

The lesson that sticks is this: you are the only one keeping you from having what you want. It’s a lot like “you can find a way.” As a matter of fact, it seemed even more poignant, then, that we made our own cobbler. We didn’t go out in search of places that served cobbler. We made our own. We made it with the conviction that it was the BEST option.

Does that mean that you’ll get the results you want simply because you choose to? Absolutely not! That distinction between choice and reality is what gets a lot of people hung up, afraid to make a choice. However, you always have the choice to change your habits and try something new. Not making that choice can often be the worst thing you do.
