Use Suction Pads To Secure Camera Tripods And Light Stands

A good camera tripod or lighting stand is a given, but they need to be secure to shoot safely, especially if other people may bump into them. DIY Photography explains that cheap suction pads, normally used for glass lifting, work nicely when attached to the bottom of your tripod or light stand.

We’ve discussed that your tripods and lighting stands don’t need to cost a ton of money to get the job done, and while most people go out and get sandbags to secure their lighting stands, if you need to be a bit more portable (or just don’t feel like lugging sandbags around), these triple suction pads will do the trick well. They’re about $60 at eBay, and since they were initially designed for glass lifting, they’re perfect — as long as you’re shooting on a flat surface where the pads can get solid suction, of course.

If you’re shooting outdoors or on uneven surfaces like carpet, these won’t replace sandbags, but if your surface is that uneven, you’d have trouble with them as well. If you want to go all-out, you could use the pads and sandbags for extra stability. Hit the link below to read more, and see photos of them in action.
