Cap Off The Work Day With A Pre-Selected Item On Your To-Do List

If you’re not careful, work can take over your life and creep into your precious personal time. It’s not always easy to know when to finish your work day, but picking something to cap it off ahead of time can help.

Work can become never-ending, always pulling at you to do “just one more thing”, but overworking yourself even a little bit every day is a one-way ticket to burnout. Sujan Patel at Inc suggests you designate one of your to-do items as the day’s final task ahead of time:

At the end of the day, laser in on one final task, finish it, and then call it quits. Don’t let yourself be distracted by a bunch of half-done tasks that you’d like to mark off your to-do list.

Ignore everything else on the list for now and go about the rest of your day. Those other to-dos will still be there when you back to it tomorrow. Then do the same thing. Pick one task (something simple that has a measurable completion), then save it to cap off your day. You’ll end each day with a sense of completion, and always leave at a good stopping point.
