If you’re one of the many out there who swear by raw denim jeans, there are a lot of important dewtails you should know for keeping them in prime condition. This video demonstrates how to take care of your jeans, reduce wear and tear, and also explains raw denim for those who aren’t familiar with it.
The video, from the MR PORTER YouTube channel, features denim afficionado Michael Williams going over the basics of proper denim care. The main difference between a pair of raw denim jeans and other jeans is that they weren’t washed after the dying process during production. This makes raw denim’s colour more rich and dark, and also allows the denim to fit to your body’s shape better over time.
Because of that difference, raw denim shouldn’t be tossed in the washing machine. Their are different methods for keeping raw denim clean, including tossing your jeans in the freezer, but Williams suggests spot treating and antibacterial sprays for at least the first six months of wear. After that, turn them inside out and give them a quick hand wash in tepid water with a little detergent. Now your raw denim jeans are ready for another six months of wear.
