Test Your Cabbage Head’s Doneness With A Cake Tester

Test Your Cabbage Head’s Doneness With A Cake Tester

You can use cabbage for more than just coleslaw — like cooking half a head in a pan for a crispy, hearty side dish. You can actually test cabbage’s “doneness” with a cake tester.

Once you think your cabbage head is done, poke the cake tester slowly into the leaves. If it slides easily through to the center, your cabbage is ready for serving. You can see this technique in the video above at about the 2:30 mark.
