It’s difficult — and pretty uncool — to ask for help when it seems like you never return the favour. If you find that you’re always too busy to keep in favour with your network, Kofi Kankam, the founder and CEO of Admit Advantage, suggests you pick just one person every week to try and help:

Beyond meeting other people via networking events, etc., I consider making an effort to reach out to at least one contact in your network per week and see how you can help this person. You’ll spend time strengthening your current network, will get some perspective on problems which may impact your business, and be well-positioned to have folks think of ways they can help you.

As you rotate through your network, you’ll keep in touch with everyone enough to stay on good terms. They will see you being helpful and hopefully return the favour someday. Even if you’re extremely busy, you probably have time to reach out to one person per week. What goes around, comes around.
