Microsoft Lync Is About To Turn Into Skype For Business

Microsoft has been working on integrating its Lync enterprise communications tool with Skype for quite a while now. This month sees the big switch: Lync will officially be rebranded as Skype For Business.

When the next round of Office 365 updates is pushed out on April 14 (which will translate to April 15 in Australia), any customers using Lync as part of that package will be automatically shifted to Skype For Business. Sites running Lync Server will continue to see the standard Lync user interface as the default experience, but will be able to switch to the Skype option if they prefer.
