You can spend a lot of money on speaker cables, but there’s no evidence that higher “quality” cables affect the sound enough to justify the price. They do tend to look cooler and last longer, so if you’re just looking for that, Instructables user junits15 shows off how to make your own.
This is mostly a cosmetic thing and meant for durability rather than sound quality. Junits15’s guide uses decent quality parts to make a braided, multi-strand speaker cables. As you’d expect, it will take a bit of work to get everything wrapped and braided, but the end result is a durable set of speaker wires for a fraction of the price you’d pay in the store.

Bear in mind braiding the left and right channels together can produce cross talk between channels. Though for speaker cables rather than interconnects this should cause no noticeable problems.
