Have An Exit Line Ready To End Slow Or Awkward Conversations Gracefully

Have An Exit Line Ready To End Slow Or Awkward Conversations Gracefully

You’ve probably had a conversation or two that felt awkward at points. Next time, have an exit line ready so you can leave the conversation when things get weird.

You can also use an exit line when a conversation has slowed and you feel it has reached a natural end point. The Art of Manliness has some examples of exit lines you can use to wrap up common conversations:

  • I’ve got to get back to work. I’ve got a deadline I need to meet before noon.
  • I want to make sure to say hello to everyone here.
  • Well, it was great catching up with you.

With one of these lines (or something similar), you’ll be able to part ways having brought the chat to a close that leaves everyone feeling positive. Mastering small talk isn’t always easy, but this is one way to simplify it. For more tips on how to gracefully end conversations, check out the full post linked below.
